There’s something in your eyes that begets wonder,

Bringing me back to the days of old

And I understand why that fruit

Tempted man, so pure, so holy before.

Love, what would I not pluck from the serpent’s fangs

For a passing smile upon those lips?

What Eden would I not forsake

To feel the sweet warmth of one tender kiss?

No clod nor pebble nor a shattered sonnet

Could match my wild heart or aching bring

The bliss of a paradise lost

To the mind of this creature steeped in sin.

Love, sing a requiem to the scattered winds

And know that my love will find its home,

The land where dreams all go to die.

My wings are melting and the earth feels cold.
